The SST servo drive’s Anti-hunt™ feature allows very high gain settings for fast response and high stiffness without typical servo jitter and "hunting." With Anti-hunt™ engaged, the perceived smoothness of the axis increases and the acoustical noise is reduced.
Without giving away details about this highly proprietary algorithm, we can tell you that it’s not a simple dead-band in the servo loop (that shuts off servo action when you are near the target position). Anti-Hunt™ actually understands the quantization noise present in the encoder feedback and uses this knowledge to inject correcting torques (forces) when the axis is close to its target position. No loss of accuracy is incurred when using the Anti-hunt™ feature.
