----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Project: OpenDMTP Reference Implementation - C client URL : http://www.opendmtp.org File : HW6945.txt ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OpenDMTP for the HP iPAQ hw6945 MS Windows Mobile PDA phone Introduction: OpenDMTP C client 1.2.0 is the first version that includes a port for MS Windows CE. The included reference implementation has been targeted for the HP iPAQ hw6945 PDA phone which has an internal GPS receiver. While the underlying OpenDMTP protocol is supported on MS Windows CE/Mobile platforms, the UI for the hw6945 phone is extremely simple and is not really designed as an end-user interface, but is rather to be used as a starting point for continued development efforts to improve the user interface. Should you wish to contribute your UI skills to the improvement of the UI interface on the hw6945 phone, we would welcome your input. This document should help with building and installing the reference implementation on your HP iPAQ hw6945 phone. It is believed to be complete, but if you happen to find areas that appear unclear, or incomplete, please let us know. Contents: 1) Downloading the required tools. 2) Creating the MS Windows CE project directory. 3) Building 'DMTP.exe' 4) Installing 'DMTP.exe' on the HP iPAQ hw6945. 5) Running the OpenDMTP reference implementation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Downloading the required tools. Fortunately, all of the Microsoft tools that are needed to build and install the OpenDMTP reference implementation application on your HP iPAQ hw6945 phone can be downloaded from the Microsoft website for free. Here is a list of tools that you will need to build the project: - ActiveSync http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync42.mspx - eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1dacdb3d-50d1-41b2-a107-fa75ae960856&DisplayLang=en - Windows SDK for Windows Mobile 2003-based Pocket PCs (for use with "eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0") http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9996b314-0364-4623-9ede-0b5fbb133652&displaylang=en - Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK for Pocket PC (for use with "Visual Studio 2005") http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=83A52AF2-F524-4EC5-9155-717CBE5D25ED&displaylang=en Install per instructions provided. If we've left out a link for a required tool, please let us know. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Creating the MS Windows CE project directory. From the OpenDMTP_client-c... installation directory, enter the following command: > hw6945.bat This command will create the directory ".\build_hw6945" containing all the project and source files needed to build the project. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Building 'DMTP.exe' Using the "eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0" IDE, open the file ".\build_hw6945\DMTP.VCW". Once opened, click the "Rebuild All" button. When complete, the executable file ".\build_hw6945\ARMV4Rel\DMTP.exe" should be ready to install on your hw6945 phone. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Installing 'DMTP.exe' on the HP iPAQ hw6945. Using ActiveSync, create the directory "\DMTP" on the phone and install the executable file "DMTP.exe" in this directory. (Note: Make sure that the "\DMTP" directgory is created in the root directory of the device). Modify the properties file ".\build_hw6945\props.conf" as necessary and install this file in the hw6945 "\DMTP" directory as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) Running the OpenDMTP reference implementation. Using the File Explorer on the hw6945, browse to the "\DMTP" directory and launch the "DMTP.exe" program (click "OK" to the warning screen which appears). A very simple user interface will display showing that a Lat/Lon has not yet been aquired. To update the display, click the "Refresh" button (lower right). The OpenDMTP reference implementation will continue to run in the background, even if other programs are running. The output log can be captured if you insert an SD card into the phone that has the directory "\DMTP" created on the card. This will appear on the phone as the directory "\Storage Card\DMTP\". The logging output will then be written to the file "\Storage Card\DMTP\MESSAGE.log". NOTE: Leaving the GPS receiver on all the time will drain the battery quickly. It is strongly suggested that if the GPS receiver is to be left on, the phone should be plugged into an auxiliary power source, such as an automobile cigarette lighter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let us know if you see any discrepancies in the above, or if you need additional information.
