Just In Time is a phrase that originated at Toyota. Originally, it described how material
should be processed and moved in order to arrive "Just In Time" for the next operation.
Common usage at Toyota extended the phrase to mean the entire complex of techniques being
developed by Shingo,
Ohno and Eiji Toyoda. As knowledge of the system began
to spread, "Just In Time," as a phrase spread with it.
"Toyota Production System" supplanted the phrase
"Just In Time" with the publication of Yasuhiro Monden's book in 1983.
